Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace

2011 June 07

As we look around us we find the world in great turmoil. Earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, disease, fighting, wars, uprisings, and strife fill the news-rooms. Nations are at war with nations, drugs are rampant, sexual promiscuity has become accepted, and in our own country there are great divisions. Not only in politics, but even the core principals that our country was founded upon are being challenged on every hand. I guess we could call it global chaos! Some have asked me if I think the world is coming to an end. All I can answer is that I do not know, but I do know who is in control.

#127 I HAVE PRAYED

2001 April 09

This week, we witnessed the most horrific act of terrorism this country has ever known, the destruction of the World Trade Center and the an attempt to destroy the Pentagon and who knows what other targets. Even in our little town, it seemed like pandemonium as people raced to the gas stations in fear of what tomorrow might bring. In the midst of chaos it is a great comfort for us to remember that Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of God the Father and is still in control of all things. In the panic of it all I observed something very interesting: people on CNN were actually talking abou ...

#77 THE PURSUIT OF HOLINESS

2000 March 04

"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy"-1 Peter 1:15-16
The desire to do better, the pursuit of holiness, is an evidence of grace. I believe this holy desire is found in the bosom of ...

#14 In the Beginning (continued)

1999 December 06

It is possible for one to be a creationist concerning nature, but an evolutionist when it comes to spiritual things. It is by faith that we see God as the sovereign creator of both worlds: the natural and the spiritual. When God created man, He did not ask man's opinion. Adam was passive when God formed him from the dust of the earth and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils. God needed no assistance. All of nature was passive. The birds, the fish, the earth, there was none of it. God spake and it was done. But what about regeneration, the new birth, when one of Adam's ra ...

#51 Together In Unity

1999 August 15

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!'@-Psalms 133:1 This beautiful thought comes from David's pen as one of the "Songs of Degrees." These short psalms have been of special interest to the Lord's people throughout the ages. Some have referred to them as the "Gradual Psalms". There have been many ideas advanced as to their special title. According to some, there were fifteen steps by which the priests ascended into the temple and on each step they sang one of these fifteen ps ...

#42 Encouragement

1999 June 08

"And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God" 1 Samuel 30:6 Here we find one of the greatest battles of David's life; a battle that every Christian will face: a battle against discouragement. David's plight is not so different from our own, for we, as David, face many discouraging circums ...

We Are His Witnesses (Part 2)

1994 October 01

OCTOBER 1994 WE ARE HIS WITNESSES (Part 2) "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." -Acts 5:32 In our last article we considered Peter and the other apostles as they faithfully witnessed the resurrection and doctrine of Jesus Christ. But we should be careful to observe the second witness our text supplies: "And so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them tha ...
