THE LOVE OF CHRIST

2006 April 09

"to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God." There is the story of a young girl who began a lengthy novel only to put it back on her shelf because it seemed boring. One night, she went on a blind date and met the most fascinating man she had ever known. She fell in love with him immediately. The night just flew by and when she returned to her home all she could think about was him! His name seemed familiar though, and the next day she picked ...

Naomi's God

2006 April 02

In his work entitled, "All the women of the Bible", Dr. Herbert Lockyer wrote: "Christianity, as we are to see, brought full emancipation to womanhood, and wherever Christ is recognized as Saviour and His truth is obeyed, woman is esteemed as man's loved companion, confidant and, in many ways, his better half. Through the centuries the social and legal status of woman has fluctuated. In times of fierce persecution they suffered much. Where heathenism still reigns, the life and lot of women are far from the freedom and joy the experience where Christianity is recognized. From the 18th

JULY, 2005 From the pastor Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we see the turmoil in the world in which we live, let us rejoice in the fact that every day brings us only closer to the coming or our great King. What a sacred haven the Church provides for us as we turn aside from the cares and distractions of life and gather with the Saints of God around the throne of the Lamb. What a blessing indeed, to have such a great God to call upon when we are in need. So, here are some thought on "THE GOD TO WHOM WE PRAY" As Christians, we have many reasons t ...

THE GOD TO WHOM WE PRAY

2005 March 05

As Christians, we have many reasons to rejoice. One of the greatest is the God to whom we pray. Unlike Allah, our God is not capricious, changing his mind from moment to moment. His children are well known, chosen from the foundation of the world, predestinated to be conformed to the image of His dear Son and He boldly declares, "I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed." As the Christian prays, they approach a throne of grace, not a throne of works or merit. Who could get good enough to merit the favors of a perfect and Holy God? All merit is in their ...

THOU HAST ENLARGED ME

2004 February 19

"Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer."-Psalm 4:1 Many were the distresses of the sweet psalmist of Israel. Though David was greatly loved of God, his life was full of trials. Saul, the king of his people, his brother in the faith, sought his life, hunting him like a wild animal. Satan was always at his heels, tempting him with the lust of the flesh and the pride of life as we read of his failings with Bathsheba and numbering Israel. Absalom, his own son, rose up against him. So it is with t ...

JANUARY, 2004 From the pastor Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we approach the New Year, let us be thankful for the Lord's blessings this past year and pray for His guidance in the days to come. We have been greatly blessed at Harmony Church. I have been encouraged by the good attendance we have seen over the past few months, as well as the increase in the number of families that are staying for lunch. We read in Acts 2:46 where the first Christians continued, "daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their ...

LOVEST THOU ME-John 21:15

2003 April 23

Today we focus our attention to a most heart searching question concerning our love for Jesus. As our Lord questioned the heart of the apostle, let Him equally question ours today. Try to imagine that Jesus is sitting next to you and has spoken the same words to you as He did to Peter: "Lovest thou me?" Peter was of the highest office in the church. The question was not to a nominal follower of Christ. It is indeed a question for us all. Those who have sacrificed much are not exempt from the question for Peter had "Left all" to follow Jesus. Even the most zealous are subject to the ...

ONLY TRUST HIM

2003 April 02

"They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever"-Psalm 125:1 It is difficult for us to trust in the Lord, to put our lives, our hopes, our fears and our labors in the hands of another. Yet, there is a great peace given to those who do so: they cannot be removed. This does not mean that we should not pray for a desired end, nor does it mean that we should sit on the stool of do nothing. David fought the Philistines, but he prayed. The apostles trusted in the Lord, yet they were busy in their righteous endeavors to serve the Lord and ...

#165 REMEMBERING JESUS

2002 May 21

"Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me" We have all heard stories of people who have been rescued from burning buildings or snatched from twisted and burning heaps of wreckage along the interstate by some brave and caring individual. It seems that the hearts and souls of those who were rescued were knit to their savior, as Jonathan's soul was knit to David's, when he slew Israel's giant enemy. In many cases, some sense of appreciation or gratitude for life seems to move the wo ...

REMEMBRANCE

2002 March 05

One of the most difficult tasks of the ministry is the funeral service. As Paul wrote, "Who is sufficient for these things". We find our words shallow and our efforts weak as we try to comfort the families of those who have lost precious loved ones from the shores of this life. Who can say all that needs to be said? What man can reach the soul and calm the troubles waters? During these services I have noticed the crowds of those who have met to remember and honor their loved one at the last service performed in their name. One thing that I have noticed is that those who loved the most draw ...

January, 2002 From the pastor Greetings in the name or our Lord Jesus Christ. Since the time of our last newsletter we have had some wonderful services at Harmony Church. We have been blessed, not only with faithful attendance by our membership, but also with many visitors over the last few months. We are thankful for the many new faces that God has sent our way and we hope we will minister to their needs by both word and deed. I am thankful for the love that is manifested at our church. Surely, it is a reflection of Christ. I personally encourage each member to ...

#103 SEEKING GOD'S FACE (Part 2)

2000 September 02

"When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee,Thy face,Lord, will I seek"-Psalms 27-8 Here we find David in a most profitable venture: he is seeking God's face. Seeking is a active pursuit. It requires patience; diligence; integrity; sincerity; and desire. It seems that we seek Him most when we have the greatest needs. Yet, it is a comfort to know that He encourages us to do so. But how is such a thing done? How may we seek the ...

2000 August 26

"When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee,Thy face,Lord, will I seek"-Psalms 27-8 If your heart has been stirred to seek after God you are in good company. Josiah, while he was yet young began to seek after God; Job said, "Oh that I knew where I might find Him"; Solomon wrote, "I will seek him whom my soul loveth"; Ezra prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord; and Jehoshaphat set himself to seek the Lord. Great blessings were foun ...

#64 The Mathematics of Grace

1999 November 22

"Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven" –Matthew 18:21-22 These words of Jesus reflect something that seems to be drifting from our vocabulary, a kind of math that is not new, but ancient as the Godhead, treasured up in the person of Christ: it is the mathematics of grace. Gr ...

#62 THE PEACEMAKERS ARE HAPPY

1999 November 08

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." In His seventh Beatitude, Jesus approaches a level of Christian maturity that not every disciple will achieve. Here we are called upon to place the cause of Christ first in our lives. "What I want" and "How I feel" must be replaced by "What is best for the cause." Here we become willing to die to self for the cause of Christ and the prosperity of His kingdom. Such is the attitude ...

$48 THE BLESSINGS OF CONTINUING

1999 July 22

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers"-Acts 2:42 To begin something is one thing, but to be faithful to continue in it is another matter. While Baptism and a confession of our faith in Jesus Christ is a great act of faith, we know that this is just the beginning. We would not discourage those whose hearts have been stirred to follow Christ. But those who have enlisted in His army ...
