#119 Rejoicing with Christ (part 3)

12 February 2001

"In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou has hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight"-Luke 10:21 Last week we concluded our article by asking how a person comes to know God and His Son and what is the difference between those to whom He has been revealed. We hear many things of Jesus Christ today. Though some will deny that He actually existed, presenting His person as a myth, others recognize that if by no other reason, history bears His mark in the sands of time so they casually pass Jesus off as a wise philosopher or some good man. Even Jesus posed the question to His own disciples, "Whom do men say that I am?" Even then, many answers were given, "John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets." O.K., even then, seeing His physical person, witnessing His miracles, hearing His dynamic preaching, there were those to whom He was hidden. But not from all. So, Jesus then poses the question. He narrows it down. He wants to know who His disciples say that He is, "Whom say ye that I am?" Jesus looks for a difference and thus the "Babes" are known. Peter steps forward with the answer as we would expect, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." And how did Peter come to this conclusion? By revelation!!!! "Blessed art thou,Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven". Not by flesh and blood, mans knowledge, but by direct and divine intervention from God above! May I say today, that if you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that you are one of His "babes"; one of His children. By direct revelation, the creator of all worlds has condescended, taken notice of you, chosen you, and given you knowledge of His person that the wise and prudent scoff at. Your identity as a "Babe" is revealed by your own knowledge of His person. John wrote the simplicity of these words, "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God"-I John 5:1. That is past tense. And finally the difference. One that is a "Babe" has a love for their heavenly Father and His Son. The cross has meaning to them because it is the means to and end: the salvation of their souls. The "babe" is hungry to know more about the cross and Christ. They love to know about the Bible. They would take the time to read articles like this one and others on this page because their soul has been made hungry. Where there is hunger there is certainly life. By the preaching of the gospel the hidden Man of the heart is revealed: Christ in you the hope of glory. Are you a "Babe"? Has Christ been revealed to you? Certainly this is a mark of loving favor. Let us rejoice! Come and worship with us at Harmony Primitive Baptist Church. Singing begins at 10:30 each Sunday morning followed by preaching at 11:00.
