#108 Innocent Blood

7 October 2000

"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood"-Proverbs 6:16,17. God is a God of love. All love emanates forth from His divine presence. Yet, there are many things that God hates. Seven of those things are given to us by Solomon in order that our thinking may be adjusted to think, not like the world, but like our Holy Father's. Today, we focus our attention upon just one of these principles: the shedding of "innocent blood". Innocent blood is blood that flows through the veins of people who have done no sin; they have committed no crimes; they have slandered no one; they have not dishonored their Creator. Innocent blood is blood that flows through the veins of people who can not speak for themselves; they have no voice; they have no choice; no vote; no platform; no defense. If you will look the world over you will find no blood more innocent that the blood of the unborn child. Infanticide is not a political issue. It is a MORAL issue. It always has been. There is no new thing under the sun. The shedding of innocent blood has always been a sin. God punished Israel for offering their newborn babies to the false god, Molech, in the valley of Hinnom. A great brass statue was prepared to this image, heated with fire, into whose hands the baby was placed. The ceremonial drums would beat ever so loudly to drown out the screams of the innocent blood. It was Pharaoh that commanded the midwives to throw the male Hebrew children into their god: the Nile. It was again a ruler, Herod, that commanded the death of all the children that were in Bethlehem, from two years old and under: innocent blood. Today, modern science has made the shedding of innocent blood, not only more convenient, but also less messy. The have invented the abortion pill, RU-486. I am not interested in getting involved in politics, but when politics violates a divine principle a word must be spoken for the sake of truth. As a pharmacist, I find it amazing that the FDA, an organization that was instituted to protect life, has now condoned a substance to destroy innocent blood. As a minister I agree with Solomon: "there is no new thing under the sun." I am sure that many politicians mean well. The argument is that there are too many babies born out of wedlock and the government is overburdened with their food and medical expenses. They will not tell you that on CNN, but that is their focus. They hide behind rights; choices; and dreams. No, we do not have Molech today, we have THE ECONOMY. Same god, just another name. For this god let us shed some innocent blood. According to God, life begins at conception. John the Baptist was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost while he was in his mother's womb. I am persuaded that countless others, whose innocent blood has been shed, have been as well. In the 13th Psalm, David wrote, "thou hast covered me in my mother's womb". I don't know how many trimesters were involved in that statement, but he was known and loved of God before birth. If David was known before birth, are not all? A few weeks ago, my wife and I went to the movies and saw "Cider House Rules". The whole slant of the movie was to tell us that the shedding of innocent blood is O.K. On the heels of this movie the FDA approves RU-48. Coincidence? Possibly. Yet, today, peoples minds are directed, not by God's word, but by good acting. The movie featured an attractive female who had an abortion. What the movie did not, or could not give, was the emotional pain that comes into the lives of those who have shed innocent blood. Sin causes pain. In his book, Sanctity of Life, Charles Swindoll states that 95+% of all abortions are for reasons of convenience; not incest, not rape, not the physical condition of the unborn, and not the threatened health of the mother. 75% of the expectant mothers said the child would interfere with their lives. This article is not to add misery to those who have participated in this sin. This article is to shed light upon how God thinks; to prevent others from making a mistake in ignorance; to bring those who have sinned to a place of forgiveness. If you have participated in this sin, think like God, repent and He will forgive you. Today, I present to you today minority thinking, thinking that is despised by the world at large. We must march to the beat of a different drummer. His name is Jesus Christ. May God have mercy upon our nation(Prov. 14:34). Lord, help us to think like thee!
